Why is my cable box causing interference?

Is there a way to eliminate interference on an analog TV with a digital converter box?

  • I don't have cable or a satelite dish...just a regular old TV with a magnavox converter box, and there's constantly interference with the signal. Is there a way to eliminate the interference entirely without having to get a cable box? Do i have to change the converter box? I once changed the antenna, but that didn't help any.

  • Answer:

seems likely that you need a better or higher outdoor antenna. makes no difference what tv you use . though best results and a sharper picture will be if you use an AV connection to your tv or have a tv with built in digital tuner. Perhaps you are too far from the tv tower. Make sure your antenna covers the right band . In your area digtal channels might be on UHF wheras most of your old analog were likely on VHF.

If you are feeding your converter box into the TV antenna socket it could be there is some source of interference causing patterning etc. It's best to connect the converter via the RCA sockets on the AUX in on the TV.

Either find out the source of interference or get a new TV.
