Do old TV's get darker as they age?

well if you know what your doing (and I bet you don't) you can adjust the high voltage setting on the inside of the TV. if you don't know what your doing do not try this as you will probably kill yourself or at least get a huge shock. (even if the TV is unplugged)

geeze its been 13 years get a new tv. ur supposed to upgrade tvs every 3 years

Yes, CRT type TV's get darker as the CRT ages. However, there is an adjustment inside called a SCREEN control which compensates for this. If your TV has never been adjusted by a tech then this may help. Usually though you can only adjust them once or twice before the CRT has reached the end of its life. If your set has been used day in and day out for 13 years then this probably will not be of any help. Ask a tech how much it would cost to do a color setup on your TV or find an electronics student who might be capable of doing this. Sometimes the control is even accessible through a hole in the back cover without even disassembling the TV. Just don't remove the cover unless you know what you are doing. There are deadly voltages in there. WK
