How can I get better TV reception?

How do I get a better TV reception?

  • I just moved into an apt. and I haven't got satilite yet so i'm stuck watching basic tv. The problem is I get really poor reception. I thought it was just the antenna i had so i went out and bought a better one. Still nothing!! Is there anything i could do to improve the signal or do i just need to tough it out until i get my satilite?

Unfortunately, some locations cannot get good receptions from indoor antennas. You can try moving the set to a different location within the house nd/or purchase a reception booster from an electronic store (such as Radio Shack) but that might offer little help if any at all. What this means is that only an outside antenna (or cable) will help. If you are in an apartment erecting an outside antenna is probably not a choice that is available to you. Sorry!

The cable between the antenna and TV might be bad. Try replacing it. If your reception still doesn't improve much, then you can buy a "booster" (amplifier) to boost the signal on the cable. Don't buy one at Radio Shack unless you absolutely have to – Radio Shack's prices are ridiculous.

Try moving the tv to a different location in the room. My Mom had crappy reception in her room, just moved it to another spot and it works great!

However, if you really want to get better reception, go to Radio Shack (or any consumer electronics store that sells accessories) and invest in a amplified antenna. They're not cheap, but this should give you some decent reception. If you find that it doesn't work, you can always take it back for a refund. You could try getting a high-gain antenna with a signal amplifier (booster). However, if your signal is very weak the amplifier won't do you much good because it will amplify the noise coming from your antenna as well as the signal and if there is too much noise (signal to noise ratio is too low) then noise is all you will see. Before you buy a more expensive antenna try lifting the one you have as high as you can get it and experiment with orientation (move it about until you get the best picture) You may need an extension lead to do this. If you can get a half decent picture then it might be worth getting a better antenna but you will have to position it for best results.

Dont know but when you decide to switch. Check out my satellite site.

its probably more a matter of direction, moving the aerial around until you get it pointing towards the source of the signal. if this doesnt work then you can get mains powered signal boosters for around £10. which seem to work quite well on a poor signal.
