Why do I have green static on my tv when playing a dvd?

Why does the tv switch off sometimes when a dvd is playing?

  • it loses the signal from the dvd player do you know why or how to fix it, it doesn't happen on all dvd's though just now and again

  • Answer:

A TV should not switch off unless it is set to automatically switch off due to loss of video. If you pause a DVD for too long this may happen. But more likely you would have to have a HDTV and a high definition DVD player (HD or blue ray) connected via HDMI. If the HDMI connection was not initialized correctly (TV on first before DVD player) the DVD player may not see the HDTV as a valid device and may not output any video via HDMI. Then the TV may be shutting off because it does not see any video on the HDMI connection. Due to copyright protection the high defintion DVD players (HD or Blue Ray) which are connected via HDMI and playing a copyrighted movie will validate that the connection is to a HDMI connector on a HDTV and not some sort of recorder in order to protect the copyrighted movie. Also if there is some screen resolution issues this may happen... the HDTV may shut off. Make sure the high def DVD players (HD or Blue Ray) are set to the same resolution that the HDTV supports (720p, 1080i, or 1080p). This may not be a problem with all sets but it will be a problem with some.
