Why won't my TV get all the channels any more?

Why do I get certain TV channels as Network Television?

  • On my TV, as well as most other Americans, there's certain channels (NBC, PBS, CBS, Univision) that is available through network television. Who decides what channels can be shown through network TV, and which ones you'd have to pay for (through cable or sattelite)? In other words, why am I getting things like Spanish-language TV and Christian programming without paying for it?

  • Answer:

The various networks and stations decide themselves if there is a business model for broadcasting those channels in your market, with approval from the FCC and local interests. Likewise the "stations" can also decide if their business interests are best served by distributing their channel only on pay TV services.
