What should I get? A LED TV or a LCD 3D TV?
-
I am wanting to get a tv. Around a 42". I am stuck between a 42" LED Vizio 1080p 120hz, and a 42" LCD Vizio 3D 1080p 120hz. I'm really wanting a 120hz tv, both of them have that. I am wanting 1080p, both of them have that. But, I was wanting a LED tv. Is the 3D really worth the loss of the LED and $50? LED-$598 3D-$648

Answer:
This is a matter of personal preference. Some people will say that 3D is worth it and some won't. I never been a fan of 3D myself so my answer would be get the LED.

For 3-D television you should spend the extra money and buy the TV with LED backlighting. LED produces a brighter picture and it will outlast the standard fluorescent backlighting several times over. I currently own a 52" Sony 3-D (active technology) that I purchased in 2010. It has LED backlighting. For the reasons mentioned I wouldn't have bought it any other way. With 3-D TV you really need the brightest screen you can afford because the dark glasses will immediately rob you of part of the bright picture and it doesn't matter whether the TV is active or passive 3-D (I believe Vizio uses active technology). So if you opt for standard backlighting, because the brightness will deteriorate faster than the LED the difficulties you will experience in viewing the picture will, naturally, increase at a faster pace. Incidentally, if you buy into 3-D, if you aren't already, you are going to be amazed with the view. That said, assuming you intend to use cable/satellite be sure to pick a provider that offers the most 3-D programming for your money. Through trial and error I have concluded that DirecTV is the current best and for that reason moved to their service about 6 months ago. Several months ago I bought my first Vizio, a 32" non 3-D TV with the same features you are considering (probably the same TV you are considering but with a smaller screen). So far it has impressed me way beyond my original expectations. I use it in my kitchen. Although it has a beautiful picture, the sound leaves something to be desired. That can be quickly remedied with a soundbar. Vizio makes a 40" soundbar which they sell for about a hundred dollars. At that low price you will forgo some audio quality but it should work well a a supplemental device. Good luck in you decision.

There is little 3D programming available. (Other than a few programs, and expensive Blu Ray DVD 's.) I do not like 3D TV as it is. The active glasses are hard on the eyes, and viewing should be almost from the center... I would pass on 3D... Just get the LED TV.. Some companies (like Toshiba) are working on a glasses free 3D TV.. (By the way, Vizio is a somewhat low end HDTV..!) Get a Samsung or Panasonic..
