Can I connect a universal remote to a comcast box?

Can I connect a VGA flat-panel monitor to the DVI output on a comcast HD box with an adapter?

  • My LCD TV pooped out on me a few days ago and I would like to use an extra flat-panel computer monitor to watch TV until I get a new one. I have a Comcast HD cable box with a DVI out connection. Could I use use an adapter (Like this one from Apple - http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8754G/A ) to connect the cable box to my LCD computer monitor? Will it support HD?

  • Answer:

In theory, yes - provided you own a good enough monitor. HD refers directly to resolution. 720p specifically to 1,366 x 768 (although there are lower res variations) and 1080p to 1,920 x 1,080. You need to check the specification of your monitor to ensure that it can resolve images of such a size. Almost all monitors are capable of scaling down a higher resoluton input that it cannot handle to a size it can. DVI is fully HD compatible, although VGA is an antiquated display system first invented by IBM in the 1980s. It has since been superceded by SVGA (Super VGA) which, although not mentioned in Apple's description, is most likely the hardware format of the adapter you link to, and should be fine.
