What do i need when i get a digital tv converter box?

If I have basic cable but don't have the box will I need to get a converter box when TV becomes digital?

  • I have an older analog tv.

  • Answer:

As long as you do not utilize a TV signal from an antenna, you are ok. I assume the cable running to your TV is some sort of basic cable service, not from an antenna. Call your cable company if you have any questions.

You won't need a converter box if you have cable. https://www.dtv2009.gov/

I second the motion. You don't need to do anything. You're fine.

No. the cable input will not need a convertor box.

No and Yes. No, you will not need a convertor box because the broadcasters are turning off their analog signals. Your cable provider has that covered. Yes, when cable goes all digital, you will need a convertor box. Being cable digital is different than antenna digital, you need a convertor box capable of cable digital (called QAM), or even a box from your cable provider. Cable is going digital for different reasons, and on a different timeline than broadcasters.

If all of your TV's are connected to cable service through a coaxial cable, then you will not need to buy a converter box for the digital switch.
