How to convert balcony railing into HD antenna?

HD Antenna Question?

  • OK.. I have a Panasonic 53 inch tv that is HD ready. My cable company is Cox ( which I hate by the way) My question is this... I do not have a cable box as the TV is HD cable ready... I just have the cable wire from the wall into the antenna in jack. If I want to use a external antenna to recieve local HD programming how would I hook it up to my TV since I only have one antenna in jack. Would I use a splitter? I would prefer not to have a 1950's style antenna on my house , would like to go with something inside, shelf model. I know this may limit the reception but I will have to live with that,.... For now I am just curious how to hook it into my tv... Experts... Nows your chance to shine..... Thanks if you can help!!!! P.S. I do have a open HDMI slot if that helps with anything......

  • Answer:

Don't use a splitter (combiner), it will create interference on the lower channels from the off-air signals. You will need some type of switch box to select one or the other. You will also have to switch your tv from CATV to on-air tv in order to receive the higher channels of each. (They use the same lower channels but different higher (14 +) channels.
