Answer:
Of course not, silly. HDTV's have a built in digital tuner. Have you not seen the hundreds of ads telling you to go to DTV.gov for answers?

If you have cable or SAT you don't need a converter box period. If you receive your channels off the air (use a antenna) you might need a box. Does your TV have a tuner? A model number would help. If so, it needs to have a ATSC tuner (digital) NSTC is the old, out going analog.

no.
THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT NEED THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT USE THE ANALOG TV'S YOU KNOW LIKE THE OLD SCHOOL BOX TYPES...OR IF THEY ARE GETTING THERE TV SIGNALS FROM A ANTENNA THEN YES YOU WOULD NEED ONE..BUT IF YOU ARE GETTING YOUR TV SIGNALS FROM A CABLE COMPANY OR SATELLITE COMPANY THEN YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT..GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE THIS HELPS :)

If you have a satellite or digital cable box, you're already good to go. If you get a signal through an antenna - read on. You need to find out if your TV has an ATSC tuner. Odds are that if you've bought it in the last five years, it has one. They've been standard for a while now. You can verify this one of two ways. Look in the manual to see if you have an ATSC tuner - or look up the specs by model number on the internet. If you DO have an ATSC tuner, all you have to do is plug your existing antenna to the back of the TV and have your television "search for channels." That's it. THAT'S IT. No more needed. You may need to search channels again in the future as more and more TV stations transition to digital next month. If you do NOT have an ATSC tuner - i.e. if it says you have an NTSC tuner - then you DO need a convertor box. Your antenna will plug into the back of the box, and then you run AV cables (the red/yellow/white ones) to the correct jacks on the back of the TV. Go to DTV.gov for answers. Don't depend on the people on THIS site for answers. I've seen about 10 on this question that are flat out WRONG.

Depends on when it was made. Not all of them are current with the new requirements and may require a converter box.
