How to get my tv and pc to have sound at the same time?

i have a laptop and a hdmi cable hooked to it and i'm trying to watch tv on my laptop and my kids want to watch cartoons i need a little me time some times but if i can elemanate the problem and watch both at the same time i could have me time every time i'm on the pc need to get sound to work on both at the same time
