When purchasing a new tv, does 60 HZ vs 120 Hz REALLY matter?

60 hz vs. 120 hz lcd tv's?

  • Is 120 hz really worth the price difference compared to 60 hz? I watch a lot of sports?

  • Answer:

The whole hz thing is a marketing ploy! A LCD's hz alone can not fix motion blurring! Pixel response time is what helps prevent motion blurring! If you can find a LCD with a very fast response time(4ms or less), then i'd recommend that for watching fast motion content(sports, movies & gaming)! However, if it's a large TV, then you may STILL see some degree of motion blurring! It's just a inherent flaw in LCD's technology! Plasma's are the best option for fast motion content because their response times are near instant(.001ms or so)! They also have the highest native contrast ratio's(forget about dynamic, it's bogus) to help produce the best colors, deepest blacks and whitest whites! I have a Panasonic Plasma TV for which i watch a ton of sports & movies with a little Xbox 360 mixed in there and i absolutely love my TV! Awesome pic sharpness and color!

i would say yes. but it also depends on what your watching. if your watching a regular movie then 120 hz makes the motion look fake, and unnatural(although some people tend to like it better) but if your watching something like sports or a nature show(like something on discovery) then 120 hz makes it look ALOT better, the motions are alot less blurred and makes it seem like your actually there. so overall i would say its very worth the price difference!

unless your tv is bigger then 40" there will be no difference as tv is only broadcast at 50 or 60hz (depending on country) and we only need around 35hz for our eyes to see something as smooth video there is realy no point, but on larger screens the higher refresh rate can benitit if you sit close to the screen, although if you are sitting at the recommended 2.5x the screen size away from the tv (to reduce eye strain) almost any tv at 60hz you will not notice a difference to one at 120hz
