Why was I able to view a TV channel yesterday, but not today?

  • I don't really watch much TV but yesterday I found a channel where I could watch a few shows I haven't seen in a while. I specifically remember yesterday clicking that channel and being able to view a show (that I didn't like, because all the shows I wanted to see were supposed to come on today) and being surprised that it actually worked. I triple checked. I also wrote down on a piece of paper the channel so I could keep it in mind to watch today. I *KNOW* it's the right channel. So I woke up early today to watch those shows. Then I go to the channel and it says "ATTENTION: A subscription is required to view this program. Please contact customer service to subscribe, or select a different channel." This pops up on channels that I'm not subscribed to... So WHY did it work yesterday, but not today?! Every other channel I regularly watch is fine, but why can't I view this one when I was able to yesterday? Please help... (I have Shaw Direct, if that helps. There's been no problems in weather/anything with TV, just this happening. I'm talking about channel 651 -- WGN.)

    They may have had a free preview day yesterday. It's a day that you can get the channel for free to see if you are interested in subscribing to it. A lot of the channels do that.

The Satellite TV services give free views of certain subscription channels from time to time to entice customers to buy more subscriptions. Sometimes the free viewing is for a day sometimes for several days or a week as a sales promotion. That's what you probably ran into.

It was a free preview. Sometimes they will offer a free preview of certain channels in hopes of getting people to upgrade their package

Shaw Direct will often to this. Like the others said, it may have been a preview day/week or whatever. You may also notice with WGN that WPIX, KTLA & WSBK will be on as well.
