Why is the picture only in black and white?

I moved and when I hook up my VCR to the color tv with an RGA cable, I get a black and white picture-why?

  • my tv's S-video output doesn't work properly so my friends told me I needed the RGA (red, white, yellow connectored-cable) which I went out and bought. Both the tv and vcr are over 10 years old. I feel like this could be a connection error on my part, but I don't know what else to try. THANKS for any help.

  • Answer:

First that's RCA cable. In a ten year old set, the TV tuner could weaken. You still can connect to the TV tuner input from your VCR output. Have you tried substituting known good components to isolate the bad. In other words try using the VCR on a newer set.

Other answers

You dont need the rca wires because you can hook the vcr too a cable too the tv and since its 10 years old it wont matter because the quality will be that great.
