Why does my tv screen turn green and then turn off?

Why did my tv screen turn completely green?

  • I turned on my tv and it was fine. I then went to my dvr and selected my tv show and the screen turned completely green. The audio is still there and every channel has the green screen. Turning on and off has done nothing.

  • Answer:

It could be a loose video cable - check yours to make sure they're connected properly. If you have a rear projection set, they use a lamp to project the image on your screen. When the lamp starts to burn out, the screen can turn green. You can order a replacement lamp and replace it yourself. Check your manual for the part number and instructions. The bulb usually costs a few hundred dollars. If you have certain models of Sony TV, such as their rear-projection or WEGA LCD panels, there is a known issue with the video processor that causes the screen to turn progressively green. Sony has extended the warranty on these TVs - check out their support site under Sony.com and search for your TV model.
