Why do I get a "low signal strength" message since installing a new splitter on my TV cable?

I installed a two-way splitter on the TV cable outside my house and neither TV cable digital box will boot saying "low signal strength". When I circumvent the digital boxes, both TVs work, but only get analog channels.

A splitter will lower the signal strength. You should try installing everything without a splitter.
