What is the difference between LCD and Projection TVs?

What is the difference between DLP and LCD TVs. Which is better ?

  • I'm looking at LCD & DLP projection -flat screen TVs in the 50" to 61" size range. Any recommendations, based on personal experience , would be appreciated.

  • Answer:

DLP uses Hi speed mirrors as the medium to create a picture, and LCD uses Crystal shutters in a liquid as it's medium..... Remember all the noise about response time? Imagine holding a foot race in a swimming pool...up against a race on land....Where will you be the fastest at? Obviously the one on land since liquid slows you down.... Same applies with DLP (land) and LCD (water) Personally, I've seen LCD and DLP side-by-side and THE COLOR ON DLP IS AMAZING !! I'm sticking with DLP for Color, it's overall reliablity, it's response time (no reponse time!) DLP wins every time!

Again I work in a TV store (called connect) DLP and LCD are to different to judge. A DLP (Digital Light Processor) uses a color wheel and reflected light to produce an image. Pros: Cheap, get a 60 inch TV with 1080p TV for very little. No ghosting, so the shadows are non existant. Cons: You have NO viewing angle, the person above me said DLP has the best color, but it will only have a great color if you are watching head on and at eye level. Other wise, youll be noticing a black overcast. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) uses a flat bulb to produce its picture off of crystals that are charged to produce seperate colors. Pros: Great in well lit rooms, flat-panels can be mounted and fixed to wall, lasts a long...long...LONG time. Cons: Expensive, the 60 DLP will be less expensive then a 46inch LCD. From my personal experience, I tend to stay away from DLP, they're too big and clunky. And they don't necesarrily have th best color. Try watching one in the daytime. LCD's are more versatile, since you can get it as a flat panel, it makes for a great looking room, if you mount it and get an RF remote to hide all your consoles. So i would stick with an LCD, they are a pretty penny, but I think its workth it if you watch TV enough.
