How do I turn my tv on without a remote?

How can I turn off the closed captioning on a JVC TV for which I no longer have the original remote?

  • I no longer have the original remote for a JVC TV purchased in 1996. I can not figure out how to turn off the closed captioning using an RCA universal remote or the menus available through buttons on the TV. How can I do this?

Did you try unplugging it from the outlet? Maybe that will reset the tv.

If you can access the menu there should be a section for closed caption, it may be under something like set up, or you could try to reset it... when you are in the menu option does it have a reset to factory default? if you do click the yes and it will go back to the original settings.

On the TV itself, there should be a MENU button inwhich you go through the options with the VOLUME button or the CHANNEL buttons and I think go to the SYSTEM option on the screen.

The easiest way is to buy a cheap universal remote at any store. They can be had for less than $10. Then you can program it fairly easy following the instructions and control the TV again, including the CC. Walmarts, and probably Walgreens, sell these very cheaply.
