How to fix my tv screen?

How do I fix a TV screen that has changed color in the corner?

  • I moved my TV today because we're rearranging furniture. When I got it in place, the upper right corner of the picture is purple. It did this one time before but I moved it and it went away again. This time I can't get it to go away. How do I fix it?

  • Answer:

This discoloration is caused by a magnetic field generated by something near that corner of the screen. It could be you placed a speaker, or other electronic device with a power supply near that corner. Try moving the magnetic object away from the TV. Next, find a powerful magnet (got one on the fridge?) then do this> 1. place the magnet 8" from the center of the screen with the TV off. Then turn it on and at the same time move the magnet in a circular motion making gradually larger circles as you step back from the TV about 6 to 8 feet. set the magnet down away from the TV then do this> 2. Now turn off the TV. and walk towards it making gradually larger circles until your again 8" (inches) from the screen, at this point your circles should be as big as the screen. Then do this> 3. Draw the magnet in a circular motion gradually coming to the center, then step back slowly while making your circles larger until your again 6 to 8 feet from the TV. Put the magnet down away from the TV and go turn it on. Walla, fresh colorful new picture. This process is called Magnetic Degaussing. If this process dose not work for you, try asking your local Radio Shack for a degausser. They use to carry a powerful one that works off household current.

make sure it is no where near a magnet.. for example speakers??....... yu can sometimes take a magnet and like a sweeping motion pull the discoloring off to the side... it could and probably is permanant damage

if you have speakers or any type of magnets close to the tv move them away from the tv set

buy a new one or very carefully run a magnet about 3 inches from the spot.a magnet was probably the cause of the spot so be careful

I reviewed the answers and was amused at the drill near the screen,. I believe he is on to something there. I like people who can think of common sense ways to resolve a problem lol. De-gausing your magnetized area of the screen is good but to go further you may need to just do a spring cleaning of the tube core inside the TV. Have an experienced person remove the back and hit it with compressed air can to clean the coils on the back of the tube. remember a few thousand volts is only inches way. The capacitor is still retains a charge.

you cant... ... it sometimes go away with time.... something magnetic touched it

i took my tv to get repaired once, and they told me that nowadays it is cheaper to just junk the old one and get a new one, by the time you pay parts and labor....no matter what the issue.

Try using a magnet to "pull" it away. It sounds odd but try it--that's what the repair ppl said they used and charged $x.

There may be a "DeGauss" setting that will restore the color. It seems it may have come in contact with a "magnet" perhaps from stereo speakers or something like that.

I agree with earlier answer: a magnetic field has goofed up the colour.
