Answer:
Dish Network and DirectTV have the strong possibility of going out during a storm, but Comcast has the worst programming. I have Dish Network, and it's alright.

I'm so HOT!!!!
I had directv and it was alright but I am now currently with comcast. I like comcast because it's simple to get on and you don't have a million pieces of equipment to put up or have to wait a week and half to get it installed like with directv. That's what happened to me but I can't say for everyone else. Comcast would be my choice though. Hope I helped you a little. Have a great day and Good Luck!

I've had Dish and Direct TV, I prefer Direct TV

I've had Dish Network as well as DirecTV. I prefer DirecTV over Dish Network because I use TIVO to record my programs and if TIVO goes to a channel that I didn't subscribe to, it was stuck on that channel until I got home and pressed a button on the Dish receiver.

We bundled with Qwest, have our internet, phone and DirectTV with them, never ever had a problem, the internet connection is awesome! I broadcast internet radio from my home, therefore I need something really reliable. I can highly recommend it.

I've experienced all of them, so here's my input on a several items: QUALITY OF CHANNELS - HD & Standard Resolution If you have HD, then the quality of all of them is pretty sweet. If you don't, then you'll be getting standard resolution. Some people say that Comcast is better because their using a cable with more bandwidth. If you're using a digital receiver, one thing you might notice is that there is less blockiness compared to the satellite rivals. The advantage of having a satellite package is the amount of channels you can receive compared to what you are paying for. In my area, I get more bang for the buck with Dish Network. At this time, they have more HD channels and more standard channels at lower prices. If you're not getting HD, then they still have more standard resolution channels at an affordable price than DirecTV or Comcast. EQUIPMENT/COMPLEXITY It's true that Comcast is more simple than a satellite package. All you have is a cable coming out of the wall and plugged into a digital receiver or directly to your TV. So what makes a satellite system more complicated? It has a satellite dish and an optional digital video recorder. That's about it. If you're okay with having a satellite dish at your residence, it's really not complex at all. However, if you live in an area that has frequent heavy-duty storms or other weathering effects that can pull the satellite dish off your home...then there are other issues. Simply, just have it mounted in a protected and stable area if possible. ARE YOU HARDCORE INTO SPORTS? Each one has its pluses and minuses about sports. Most hardcore sports fans go with DirecTV. They have certain proprietary sports channels that the Dish or Comcast do not have access to. Comcast has some special sports channels as well. However, if you're just an average sports fan - Dish Network has the ESPN's, and many sports channels, including PPV sports packages. I've heard a few people complaining that a certain sporting event wasn't shown on Dish Network and that it was shown on DirecTV. There's also people that complain that there is some on Comcast that they don't have access through on DirecTV. So it's a toss up. Remember though, there's no free lunch here. You'll be paying for all of the extras. INTERNATIONAL PACKAGES If you're not interested in foreign language programs...skip this section. If you are interested, Dish Network has been the leader in introducing more and more international programs. In second place is DirecTV. They've been adding more programming as well. From what I've seen, Comcast is at the bottom of the pit. For what they offer, they're extremely overpriced compared to the competition. However, if you're just interested in foreign language broadcasts that are offered through local channels - these 3 companies have that capability without paying more out of your pocket. ON DEMAND All of these packages offer "On-Demand". You just have to pay for it. Some cable companies push that they have a killer on-demand system because of the bandwidth capabilities. At this time, it's not too much of an issue. The satellite companies are getting set up for more digital (HD) channels. They have to since it's an FCC requirement. So they will have plenty of HD channels in the future, scattered through multiple satellites. So satellite companies can compete with bandwidth by using more satellites and signal types. DVR's (DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDERS) It was once said that DirecTv was the leader for DVR's. The reason being that they had a dual-tuner DVR which had more flexibility than Dish Networks. Now, Dish Network has a dual-tuner DVR as well. They're both highly competitive companies and will do what they can to have the best product over their competition. CUSTOMER SERVICE All 3 have great customer service and all 3 have bad customer service. No company is perfect. There are tons of customer service reps for each one and it's pretty unlikely that all of them are perfect. Customer service in any company is tough to deal with. They handle many complaints throughout the day. Now this doesn't mean that they have the right to disrespect you...but if you were in their shoes would it be easy to be happy and nice to everyone you talked to?

Start with the company that doesn't put you in a 1 year or 2 year contract. Comcast isn't going to do you like that. If you are happy with them- great. If you aren't, cancel and move on. But, if you aren't sure about which one you want to choose, do not go with satellite.

I've had both DirecTV and Dish Network, and I'll take Dish Network anyday. Less expensive and more movie channels in each package (5 Cinemax, 8 Starz, 8 HBO channels). Screw the cable companies.
