Answer:
HDTV refers to the signal being transmitted. It the latest standard that has better a better picture and sound than the old standard which is called SDTV. LCD, LED, and Plasma refers to the the type of televisions which displays these HDTV signals. HD-Ready TVs mean they have a high resolution display and can have a built-in over-the-air HDTV tuner. LCD uses liquid crystals and a flucent tube backlight to display the image. Pros of LCD are bright picture and low power consumtion. Cons of LCD are low contast, motion blur, narrow viewing angle. LED tvs are similar to LCD because they both use crystals to display the picture. The differences is that LED uses LED for the backlight instead of flucent tubes. Pros of LED are better color. Con of LED is poor uniformity, which means the brightness is uneven. Plasma uses charged gas to display the picture. Pros of Plasma: best contrast, no motion blur. Cons: more power consumption, less detail in picture, minor problem of burn-in. Now, the thing to remember is that technology is always changing and in some cases improving, so the cons of some TVs are less of problem than they used to be. For example, LCDs now have faster refresh rates which reduce noticable motion blur. So the one you choose for your home depends on a lot of factors. If you have bright room, you may want a tv with lower contrast(the difference between light and dark). If you have a lot of money and want the latest technology, you may want LED. If you want an overall good picture but aren't concerned with sharpness, you may want Plasma.

LCD/LED is the same thing, more or less. The difference between them is the backlight light source they use. 'Traditional' LCDs use CCFL (flourescent) lights. LED LCDs use LED lights. That's your difference in technology. The visual impact is that CCFL has color, blacks, and contrast that is inferior to Plasma, DLP, and CRT. So the LED option brings those traits up to a more acceptable level. LED LCD is hands down a way better looking LCD image. But you pay a heavy price premium for this feature. LCDs, of all kinds, are inherently flawed with fast motion playback. They suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). They compensate for this with 120Hz/240Hz (or 100Hz/200Hz) refresh rates. This does a really good job in helping to hide the flaw, but its not absolutely perfect. And again, you have to pay a heavy price premium for this option. Plasmas will give you better color, truer blacks, and deeper contrast right out of the box. Also, Plasma has a near instantaneous response time so it handles fast motion playback flawlessly. Plasma is the stronger image choice. Plasma only suffers from myths and misconceptions. Plasma does not suffer burn-in. Plasma works in high altitudes. Plasma does not have a short life-span (most sets are 60,000 - 100,000 which is equal to or better than any LCD). Plasma models are not all energy hogs, many are energy star certified now. "HD Ready" - this means the TV is capable of HD playback if you hook up an HD device, but does not have a built in TV tuner. The word 'Ready' simply means no HD tuner. But you can hook up a cable/satellite set top box or a BluRay player and it will play HD without any problems. Also, TV size matters for all of the above stuff I talked about. At 40" or great, you can see the advantages of 1080p and Plasma (or 120Hz if you go LCD). But if you get a TV of 37" or smaller, then you don't have to worry about that stuff as much. You just don't see the differences in mid-sized and small sized sets. So you don't have to spend money needlessly on tech features you don't need then. For Plasma, stick with Panasonic Viera if you can. Its your best image quality bang for the dollar. If that isn't in the cards, then look towards Samsung or LG for your Plasma needs. For LCDs of 37" or smaller, again I would go with Panasonic first and foremost. I really like the colors and blacks they provide. If Panasonic isn't doable, then for any sized LCD, look towards the big 3 S's; Samsung, Sony, and Sharp Aquos. Those are your best friends in LCD.

Well, all of those are HD. It's the difference in the method they get the picture on the screen with. LCD is liquid crystal diode. LED is Light Emitting Diode and Plasma uses excited noble gas particles I think. It's also the least bright, and they use a fan to cool them so they make noise.
