How do you fix lines on a RCA tv?

On an RCA TV/DVD combo, white lines a the top, distorts the picture, how to fix?

  • There is about a two inch area at the top of the screen that has thin white lines that literally slices the picture on the screen, and makes a reverse-upside-down-mirror image of what ever is at the top of the screen. Also, when I try to play a DVD in the player, it makes a horrible noise and doesn't play the disc, and it is also very difficult to retrieve the disc (I have to turn the television off and back on). Can this be remedied or will I just have to get a new television? Thank you for your help!

  • Answer:

The lines at the top are called "foldover" and it's probably just a bad capacitor in the vertical deflection circuit. The DVD, on the other hand sounds more difficult. Usually it's best to change the DVD module. The vertical repair should be $50 to $100.00, or so. The DVD will probably be over $200.00. Together, they are easily more than the set is worth.
