When is the best time to buy a new TV?

Answer:
If you want the best price, buy one on closeout or demo model from a store. Open box return at a store can also be a good way to get one. Check that you get the full warranty and you can save $$$$. The worst time to buy a TV is when it is a brand new model that just came out. The TVs may cost several hundred more than they will 6 months from now.

I have always just waited until it dies. Walmart always has decent prices!

Whenever a newer model and/or a bigger screen comes out. Most likely around Thanksgiving.

Right after superbowl.

I'm not sure if there really is a best time to buy one. Prices always fluctuate. Whenever you buy, it probably would be a good idea to get one that is HDTV-ready. It won't be too much longer before conventional analog signals will be totally obsolete.

the prices will not go down after the superbowl...they will stay the same....u should buy one as soon as u save up the money...or when u are willing to spend the money on one...u should go out right now and buy one!!!....and have fun with it!!!.... :-)

I was going to say 'now' owing to the sharp drop-off in Christmas sales, but "Kermit" has a good point. Perhaps that notion concerns big-screen tvs, but the rationale is apt. Anytime between now and tax time is good because retailers know that buyers are saving up and busy paying off debts. Don't blow a lot unless you intend to get a High-Definition set. You will see HDTV becoming widespread with the Congressional mandate for stations to offer it. If you just get a cheapy, don't worry. We thought cable would make broadcast signals obsolete, but yet we still see a market for over-the-air broadcast. Some of us still get UHF!
