When is the best time to buy a TV?
-
I am looking at buying a new TV and orginally tried to go out Black Friday but it was too crazy. I was thinking that around now would be a good time with the Super Bowl coming up soon but is there a better time to shop for one? I am not in a hurry to purchase but just curious. Also any suggestions on what to get? I am looking for about a 37-42"

Answer:
Super Bowl sales should be a great time to go shopping for a new TV. The only other time that might be comparable is around September when the new models come out and the older ones go on sale. Problem is that then you are getting the older model. I don't agree with the person above me about the Plasmas an playing video games on them. Plasmas will do just as well as an LCD with video games and not burn in as long as a static image is not left on the screen for a few hours. For LCD I like Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, and Sharp. For Plasma I like Pioneer and Panasonic.

You nailed it -- the best TV sales of the year happen right before Super Bowl Sunday, and the big retailers usually offer at least 12 months with no interest. Definitely go HD 1080p if you can, but you may want to avoid a plasma if you ever foresee a time where you or your children (or anyone else, for that matter) will be playing video games on that TV. I have had very good luck with Sony TVs in terms of reliability and picture. That being said, however, I strongly encourage you to go out and check them out yourself. Sharp and Samsung, two brands are considered "inferior" to the likes of Sony and RCA, have HDTVs with pictures that appear to be every bit as good as their more expensive competitors. Don't buy a TV necessarily for the brand name -- go to the show room and see how good the TVs are for yourself. You may find that you like a less expensive HDTV better than the top-of-the-line model.

f*ck yahoo, i'm doing google
Yes, I was looking for the same thing. Over the last few weeks, I noticed a sharp increase after the holidays and post-holiday sales and they just started to decrease again since it's getting closer to the superbowl. I suggest the Sony, Samsung, and Sharp Aquos brands for LCD screens. Would go for 1080p, but with your screen size, the difference is barely noticable so a 720p would be fine. You would save money and be able to get a better model for the same price.
