A little help with a video camera?

Digital camera & video help, please!?

  • I recently got a Kodak Z5010 camera (Yes, I know there are better cameras, I have one. But, I wanted something that wasn't too expensive or too big that I can just toss in my purse & not worry if it gets trashed or not - NOT that I want it getting trashed). I shot some HD video with it before I got the chance to read through the whole manual or to figure out all its settings (got the camera the day before I went to a record breaking concert). With the holidays and other things I have going on I just haven't had the time to figure these things out. Also, I was hoping some of you with a broader knowledge in this field would have better suggestions and might be able to help me out. I thank you in advance for any helpful info and hints. I have three questions: 1. Is there a way to get a still photo from the video footage? Through the camera itself? Through an online program (reputable & free would be best)? Please, don't tell me to pause the footage and take a picture of the still!!! 2. I have a Kindle Fire and these HD videos I shot, I'd like to be able to download them onto it. But, the video is HD and not formatted so that it is compatible with this Kindle. Is there a way to reformat the footage so that it is compatible/watchable through it? 3. The concert was super crazy (lots of pushing and shoving) and when I shot the video, the quality is very clear, but the footage is shaky. I'm not sure if I had the image stabilization on or if there is one or if there was just no chance of the footage being stable because of being bumped a lot. Is there any online program (once again reputable & free would be great) that can help with some of the shakiness in the footage? I don't mind buying a program for photo and video editing (I'm a photographer). So, if there is a good program that comes highly recommended, I don't mind having to purchase it because I know the program will get use. I have HP's not Mac. Thanks again!

    2) Kindle Fire uses MP4 format. Not sure if others are supported, but I've converted some video files and they work fine. It does support 1024x768 HD - H.264

1) not well. Your camera uses a 14 mp sensor. In the HD video mode, your camera is only using 1 mp of those pixels and the shutter speed is very slow, less than 1/30th second in most cases, so you will be dealing with not only low resolution, but some blur 2) You will have to research and find the correct codex to convert your cameras native video file type to one that the Kindle can use. 3) Holding your camera at arm's length is the problem. If you hold the camera hard against your face and just peer over its top to get an approximation of the shot, you will remove a lot of the bouncing around. Trying to remove instability using a program, is pretty much not going to happen, at least not within your budget Adobe programs are cross platform and can be purchased for either PC or Apple

1, you can get a still out of any video in any professional video editing softwares. 2, I have a ipad and even for that smart ipad, I have to take hours to convert my movies...It's life. You just have to edit and export to the native codec of your kindle. 3, you can stabilize via editing software, but you will loose the footage around the frame. When you stabilize it, the frame get 'zoomed in'. So i am afraid it will stretch too much for your footage. You must choose between stable or pixel? P.S I use mac, because sometimes life is too difficult on PC with movie editing.
