Would this camera be worth buying?

Is it worth buying a polaroid camera?

  • Hey, I was just wondering if I should get a polaroid camera. I've been searching one recently with no luck so far, but I was wondering where I can find one, and is it really worth buying? I heard the film is pretty expensive, and that they stopped production of it. But then I read somewhere that they started producing film again. So if you know where I should search to find a polaroid camera and is it worth it to really buy it. Plus if you know any place or website that sells the film for a decent price that would be helpful. thanks :)

  • Answer:

It might be, particularly a camera that uses pack film. These are the films that must be peeled apart after 60 seconds of development. Fuji makes its FP 100 pack films that can be used in the old Polaroids. Check out yard sales, flea markets and other places that sell used goods. It shouldn't take long to turn up a Super Shooter, 300 series or 400 series Polaroid in good condition for no more than a few bucks. You can buy an SX-70 or another camera that uses one of the integral film types, but the only source of film is the Impossible Project in the Netherlands. I strongly advise against purchasing the expired Polaroid film being sold by crooks and hucksters all over the internet. Film for Polaroids is not cheap. It never was, even before the original Polaroid Corp. went bankrupt, but it won't break the bank if you just have to give it a try. Good luck!

You can find good used Polaroid cameras at yard sales and thrift shops, some for only $.50. What may make you decide to not go down this nostalgic path is the cost of the per-print experience. http://shop.the-impossible-project.com/shop/film

You should buy this one Polaroid CZA-05300B PoGo Instant Digital Camera Digital camera with integrated printer instantly delivers full-bleed borderless images that are dry to the touch Features automatic image quality optimization with water-resistant, tear-proof, smudge-proof and peel-off prints Prints 2 x 3-inch borderless color images in under a minute Print speed: 60 seconds per print, from snap to share Accessories Included: 10 sheets Polaroid PoGo ZINK Photo Paper, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter/charger, USB cable

Film is made by Fuji and a group that took over a Polaroid production facility. Film is not cheap, but it appears that at least for a little while longer, it will still be available. Film is about a dollar a shot. ($10 for a 10 pack.) Is that worth it? Not to me. But you might find a dollar a shot worthwhile.

The impossible project makes film again. The camera itself can be had cheaply. Remaining question is if being trendy and fashionable (which is the cause of about 90% of all polaroid purchases) is worth the $3-$4 per photograph.

No--because it's $3 or $4 a shot.
