How can I fix my video camera?

Magic Lantern, Canon T3i DSLR Camera (Video) "Movie has stopped recording automatically" How can I fix it?

  • I'm using a PNY 32gb SDHC card class 10. I realize the camera is not for video, and I realize there's a small chance Magic Lantern may break my DSLR, but I'm using it until I save up for a real camera built for videos. So, I installed Magic Lantern, and I'm loving it. Buuuutt, this started happening right after I got it. After I record about 3-5 videos it starts giving me that buffer sign and a message stating, "Movie has stopped recording automatically" once I start recording again. I've formatted the card and delete all the files that were originally on there (besides Magic Lantern) and I still get that. Help? Is it the SD card? Thanks

  • Answer:

It is the card. I was having the same problem with a Class 10 Transcend card in my T3i, and I switched to a Sandisk Extreme HD SDHC UHS-I card. It works at all video settings without a problem, but count on only getting about half as much actual video time recording as the card claims. Good luck.

I never recommend installing any additional firmware on any camera - too many possibilities for things to go wrong. The t3i is for video and it sounds like you're using the correct card. If the short recording started happening right after you installed the new firmware that should tell you something shouldn't it? Well, it could be the card. Try a new one. I use only 8gb / Class 10 for my t1i and they're just fine. I have not installed any new firmware though and mine is functioning just fine. If the new card doesn't do it then I'd call Canon. However, now that you've modified the firmware they will probably not fix it under warranty for that reason. Also don't delete files from your card do a simple format. That will take everything off the card. Good Luck.
