Olympus camera has a black screen?

The screen of my Olympus digital camera broke on the inside, is it fixable?

  • Me and my friend went to Universal Studios recently and I had my Olympus Master digital camera inside my bag. When we went on the tour-tram thing I went to look over the pictures I took and I noticed that the screen was cracked a bit on the inside and there was a kind of "ink spill" on the inside as well. I was well pissed, so when I got home I asked my brother what happened and he said I probably sat on it or hit my bag on something with the camera still in it. He said that it probably couldn't be fixed, is this true? P.S. the camera itself still works its just the screen doesn't.

Don't even think of sending it to the manufacturer for repair. Virtually no point and shoot cameras are worth having them repair. But, I did this with a broken camera recently, and it worked out great: 1) Buy an identical, broken camera on ebay. You want one that doesn't turn on, but has a good screen. 2) Take the cameras apart and swap screens. 3) Reassemble the broken camera, put it back on ebay, and sell it. I did this and was able to repair a camera at a total cost of about $25. It only took a little screwdriver and some patience. If you or anyone you know is the least bit handy, you have a shot at this. If repairs are out of the question, sell the broken camera on ebay. You'll be able to find a buyer who wants the parts to fix their camera and you may be surprised at how much you get for it.

Well it probably can be repaired. But it may cost more than it would to buy a new one. If you can find one that uses the same type memory card, then at least you won't have to replace them too. BTW, "Olympus Master Digital" refers to the software shipped with your camera, not the model number. Does it use a xD card or the older SmartMedia? If SmartMedia, think of just buying a new camera. SmartMedia memory cards are obsolete
