How can I get a picture off my camera onto the computer?

Whats the cheapest i can get a camera that can be connected to a computer and also tells the date the picture?

    If the camera that took the picture had a time and date entry, you can find the answer in Windows by right clicking the file, and selecting Properties. Re-editing and saving will preserve this meta data in some programs (e.g. Photoshop Elements) but will lose it in others (e.g. Paint). Converting a .jpg to a .bmp file will lose it.
