How much is this camera worth?

How much is a 1986 Yashica camera worth nowadays?

  • I have a camera that my dad got over 25 years ago and I was wondering how much it could be worth in the next couple years. The camera works with film, and still works great everything (Flash box, lens, film box and original bag with cleaning towel and instructions). It's in great shape. I'm hoping it'd be worth a lot in the next few years. But I just want to check, thanks :)

  • Answer:

Don't sell it. Your dad probably gave it to you so you could enjoy and use not, not to make a quick buck or two. Yashica SLRs aren't particularly valuable.

You don't say which model you have, but it probably doesn't matter. Yashicas are not particularly valuable or sought-after in the collector market. There is some interest in 2011 in the Yashicamat 124, a twin-lens reflex, but the 35mm SLRs rarely sell for more than $30 or $40 in perfect condition. It's a keepsake and a memento, not an asset. UPDATE: I remember the model. It's a good camera, but not valuable, sorry to say. A quick search on eBay found three of the same model, priced from $50 to $110. One was a junker being sold for parts. Not one had a bid, although one had been on sale since Dec. 9. Nice little film SLRs like your Yashica are not much in demand now that digital has pretty much taken over photography. Collectors usually look for rarity, milestones in photo technology and models that have historical significance. Pretty much any Leica has value, for example. Some are VERY valuable. Early Nikon and Canon rangefinders can fetch a good price because of their rarity and because lots of people collect Canon and Nikon, so there's competition for the good stuff. It's an old camera, no more. I think if you try it, you'll find it makes good pictures.

I've got one too - so let me know what you find out. Actually it is a great camera with a fantastic lense but last few times I've used it the lab botched up my film and I lost all my pictures so I bought a digital. Good Luck!
