What is a good camera for recording video?
-
I would like to spend under $200. I'm looking for a small digital camera that takes good videos. Clear and loud audio is a must, and it needs to take .avi format videos. For some reason, I can't find the info about the video format for cameras anywhere online, and it seems like every camera I look at either has crappy audio and video quality, or takes .mov files. Help! :) Thanks!

Answer:
I don't believe any of the newer cameras record in .avi any longer. That's actually an old format that was widely used for 640 video and that's gone away as well ever since HD came on line. For HD avi wouldn't be a good format and that's why most good cameras today use mov or mpeg-4. For that money you're not going to get quality - it doesn't exist at that price. Oh you can find video alright but not real quality video. I'd suggest any camera in the Canon Rebel line from the t1i - to the t31... $700 to $900. Now that's pretty good quality video. Simple fact is you don't have enough money.

Bad audio is going to be present on any camera with a built-in microphone. Any sounds generated by the camera (zooming for instance) or your hands moving a little on the camera for a better or different grip. will be recorded. IF you can find a P&S camera that has an external microphone jack, a good condenser or dynamic microphone will cost far more than your budget for the camera alone A link to sort of the ultimate use of a still digital camera with a built-in video feature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux5oAksAcPM
