How can I retrieve pictures from SD Card?

Is there any way to retrieve pictures off an SD card that are viewable in the camera but won't upload to PC?

  • My friend took pictures with her digital camera, possibly a nikon coolpix, and she went to transfer them from her camera/card to her PC and it just gives an input/output (i/o) error. She's tried using the usb cable and putting the card directly into the pc card reader, but still nothing. The pictures can be reviewed on the mini LCD on the camera, so they must still be intact and not corrupted, but won't transfer to the computer for some reason. Any solutions?? Additional Details: we tried manually opening it from its drive on the computer, which was what gave us the input/output error, and we tried using the upload software that came with the camera, and it just said nothing was there. The card reader on her PC didn't work, and the card readers in both our laptops didn't read it either, just about the only reader that lets us see the pictures so we know they still exist is the one in the camera. And the card is not set to lock.

  • Answer:

Are you sure the pictures are on the card? Or could they be on the built-in memory of the camera? Assuming they are on the card: Is it a 4GB card? That would make it SDHC (High Capacity) and any PC or reader older than a year or so probably can't read that card. You need a card reader that can read SDHC. But the part where you can't load it off the camera threw me for a loop. I don't know why that wouldn't work...
