How many pictures I can take on SLR digital camera? I took 2.500 in 2 weeks!?
-
It is Nikon D40. It has got 3 year warranty (2+1 accidental damage), so I shouldn't have worries, but... With my old compact camera I took 8500 pictures in 4 years. Can happen, that pictures will not be nice after 30.000 pictures? Or after 50.000 pictures? Is there anything I should know? Many thnaks ;)

Answer:
7 pictures an hour for every hour of those two weeks? Slow down, unless you are shooting fast moving sports then there is no reason to shoot like that and you will learn absolutely nothing, except how fast your motordrive is. Take your time, compose the shots properly - take it off auto everything and actually learn how to use the camera properly. As to the question - most nikons are tested for 100,000 releases and will in effect last longer than that. Manxbiker - 2500 in a weekend - sounds like another one who is "auto everything" and keep it on hi on the motordrive and hope for the best. How many rejects?

It should go on forever..... well, apart from the fact, as far as I understand most electronic components have a lifespan of about 5-10yrs before they're completely shot, and die of old age (by which time they've been succeeded several times over by better products anyway). Main thing you should remember, though is that as SLR camera lenses are removable, they have a bit of a nasty habit of collecting dust on the sensor that takes the picture... I think most new Nikon's have a function to beat that now, but here's a few guides to doing it yourself just in case: http://www.betterphoto.com/article.asp?id=91 http://www.cameralabs.com/workshops/dslr_dust/

OK D40 is an unusual case, there is no mechanical shutter so you don't need to worry about that. Most SLRs are rated for 50k actuations, though many of the top end shutters are rated for 100k+

Most DSLR come with good shutter life span. For D40, you should be safe within 100K shots... For high end DSLR like the D3, we are talking at nearly 250K
