Which PRO SLR digital camera, can record up to 3 minute movie or video clips w/sound & has over 8 megapixel?
-
I was going to get the Nikon D200 camera until i found out it had no microphone. I have a Nikon 8700 and love having the ability to record video & audio at the drop of a dime. Does this feature NOT accompany most SLR pro camera? Plus, i like having higher megapixel(8 or more), and I really like the ideal of a bigger LCD display, like in the Nikon d200(it's 2.5!). Any suggestion? My budget would ideally be under 1500 but no more than 2000.

Answer:
The Coolpix 8700 is a nice camera. I had one myself. There were a few things about it that drove me crazy however: * the delay due to the EVF. I was constantly missing action shots and candids. * the tiny viewfinder - good for checking the general composition but not much else * poor low light performance (max. ISO 400, with poor image quality at that) * no real control over depth of field. The difference between f/2.8 and f/8 was a joke * no real way to focus manually (yeah, you could - if you had 2 minutes to set up) * etc... These are all things that make the upgrade to a dSLR worth while. The things you give up with a dSLR are video mode and live preview on the back screen (you only use the back screen for menus and playback). I currently own the D200 that you were looking at, and that camera is a joy to use - I finally retired my film body! If your budget is $2000 max, I'd seriously consider the brand new Nikon D80. That's a $1000, 10MP, 3 FPS replacement of the Nikon D70s. The specs are fantastic. And at just $1000, plus $120 for a fast 2GB memory card, you'll have plenty left for lenses. You could get the $750 Nikon 18-200mm zoom, for example. In fact, for a total price of $1870, that's probably your package right there. Check here for more info on the D80: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/nikond80/ For buying, compare availability and prices at B&H, Ritz Camera, and Beach Camera.

Even the brand spanking new, whiz bang Sony DSLR does not record video.

ha ha ha... no slr is able to record video. it defeats the purpose of the slr. what you want is a point and shoot... takes decent photos and not so decent video. you want a ferrari that also gets good gas mileage.
