What is the difference between these 2 Nikon DSLR lenses?

Using nikon lenses on canon dslr?

  • i own a nikon d200 but i want to sell it and upgrade to a new camera. i've been comparing the canon mark II and the nikon d700 and i've decided that i prefer the mark II, i think it's a better all around camera for the price and has a lighter build. the thing is i already have several nikon lenses and my analog camera is a nikon. i really don't want to start having to buy canon lenses. i know there are adapters you can buy. do these affect image quality? also, will i be able to use manual nikon lenses with the adapter? any info on using nikon lenses on canon dslrs would be useful. thanks!

If you're looking for a "lighter build", but with full compatibility for your current lenses, look at the D7000, not D700. Another choice would be the D300, which I upgraded to from my own D200. The difference in sensors and low-light abilities is remarkable. As for using an adaptor for the Nikon lenses on a Canon body - don't do it.you'll be using your Nikon glass with no autofocus, auto diaphragm, or metering in most cases. That's one of the reasons I stuck with Nikon through several 35mm SLR's as well as through several DSLR's. OR, you can start over from square one.

Usually adapters disable automatic functions. If the adapter has an optical element (glass) built-in, image quality will definitely go down. There is a reason why different brands use different mounts. If you want to jump ship, leave everything behind.

Which mark II Canon had so many? Going From Nikon to Canon is not an upgrade.

The Nikon to Canon lens adapter has no glass element or anything like that or for any brand, I've never seen a converter adapter with glass element or anything complicated, it's a circular metal mount for Canon that's all, this will have no effect on the quality of Nikon lens or Ziess lens. As for a Jumping ship is never a good idea but it seems u only have manual Nikon lens so there wouldn't be any hassle in that part but once u decide to get Canon lens, it wouldn't fit on Nikon dslr or slr, till date there's no adapter for Canon to Nikon as Nikon mount is too small for Canon. 5D Mark II has established itself that it's the best landscape and still photography for budget photographers till date. And not to forget its video capabilities that has Nikon envying.
