What is the best resolution for a web camera?

Best digital camera for my needs?

  • Im looking to purchase a digital camera to take pictures of inventory inside our store, the storefront and some still outdoor shots to incorporate into web design. I'm looking for the overall best in resolution, clarity/color, exposure/contrast, especially in low light settings. I am Not interested in video capture, lens versatility, battery consumption, zoom, features for shooting peoples/animals, compact size, etc. So far i found the Panasonic lumix lx3 very appealing as I have always been a leica fan but the price and amount of features seems to be overkill for my needs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

The best thing for you to do is stop into a local camera shop and explain your wants/needs and try the different cameras out. It sounds like you are wanting something cheap, easy to use, and good quality...in real life though, you can normally only have 2 out of the three...cheap/easy or easy/good quality.

I use to answer these questions, purchase digital camera with at least a 5x optical zoom. And I found that most qualifying cameras started at about $150. Well I was nosing around amazon.com and came across the Fuji S1800 @ $152.00. That is a great deal! I just check and you can get as close as 5mm. So this means you should be able to photograph from your store front down to jewelry (piece by piece). And of course anything in between. Now a word about Fuji. They don't tell you after warranty to take a long walk on a short bridge, like Sony did to me. I have a Fuji on which the LCD screen went white, sent it in per their instructions, ask for an estimate, received back no charge! Now I am not saying they repair everything at no charge, but this was evidently a manufacturing defect that Fuji elected to stand behind. Now that is a company I like doing business with!

several options out there, some folks even swear by their cell phone pix, for just a quick usage or to keep on shelf, without the higher costs, try your local pawn or department stores camera department. Seems at most times they can give great insight on what your specific needs are. We went for the Kodak Easyshare had many many great photo's and different type settings on it. However due to like everything else upgrades tend to limbo the camera somewhat useless or so it seemed, given the auto-load for uploading from the camera to pc and the upgrades Kodak stuck within their files, all don't seem to read each-other from time to time, when brought this to Kodak they suggested a 50. discount on next camera, seems their department hadn't the insight to explain, might of been updated materials somehow blocking the Identity of the camera from its own files. Suggest, simpler the better, don't over-do the logic, get advise from local photographer or its subsids, maybe even the camera section your local pharmacy
