Polaroid Automatic 250 Battery Voltage Question (Polaroid Users only)?
-
I have converted my Polaroid Automatic 250 to accept the more common AAA battery. However i began to notice that the batteries run out quicker than normal, less than 2 days. Maybe its shorting some how? According to this site and other through research on google. (Land List) http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landbatt.htm The Polaroid Automatic 250 uses one No. 531 (4.5 volt) alkaline battery. So i have converted it from the no. 531 battery (4.5v), to a 3xAAA holder to have a voltage of 4.5v, that is normally required for the Polaroid Automatic 250 Camera. However, i just recently noticed that the on the battery door, it says to use the no. 532 battery (3.0v). I know that during the production of the 250, there were two versions, the only difference is the viewfinder. Could it also be a change in battery voltage, because the 250's ive seen uses 4.5v, but this one that i currently have asks for 3.0v? Is this a manufacturing defect? I've tried 2xAAA at 3.0v and it works, but also 4.5v works too, so does the 4.5v cause it short or decrease battery life? Should i change it to 3.0v instead?

Answer:
This circuit uses a charge pump to boost voltage. As long as the controller voltage is satisfied, it will boost from 3.ov or 4.5v just fine. The only difference is the 4.5v may work a little faster than the 3.0. Regarding batteries, I have my doubts that the conclusion of your research is more accurate than your experience. My cameras will eat AAA batteries much faster than the Lithium batteries that come with the camera.
