Why wont my camera connect to my computer or laptop?

Why won't my Canon T3i connect to my laptop?

  • I recently got a Canon T3i and all of the software and cables and stuff that came with it. I installed the different programs on the setup disc and all that, but when I tried to connect the camera to my laptop to upload pictures, the "CameraWindow" program said that "No camera was found". For the record, my laptop is a MacBook Pro using Mac OS X v. 10.7.2. I don't know if it's my laptop, my OS, my camera, or if I'm just missing something, but I'm getting frustrated because I just want to get my pictures onto my computer to email them to my family. Can anyone help me out?

  • Answer:

Have you tried to use a Card Reader? A Card Reader is the most preferred way to download photos onto the computer and no software is needed to run the Card Reader.

One possibility is a dodgy USB cable. I have had a new device not detected before now because there was something wrong with the cable. Software or no, the computer should detect that something is there.
