Does recharging batteries take longer the first time?

Nikon Coolpix 995 question: do the batteries take a long time to recharge?

  • I inherited a used Coolpix and I am trying to recharge the batteries. So far, one of them has been in the recharging cradle for over 2 hours. Does it take a long time? Or is it possible that these batteries just die and cannot be revived?

  • Answer:

The 995 Li-ion batteries should take about 3 hour to charge. There could be a problem though. If the batteries were left discharged for more than about five days, they may be dead and no longer rechargeable. There are three things that can damage a Li-ion battery. Left discharged for long periods of time, overcharging (the Nikon charger will prevent this) and over heating (the Nikon charger again will prevent this). If after 3 hours in the charger they are not fully charged, you will have to buy a new Nikon EN-EL1 Lithium-Ion battery. You can call Nikon to find where to buy one. 800.NIKON-UX
