How long do you have to recharge Kodak rechargeable digital camera batteries?

Camera using up batteries in minutes?

  • The camera I have is a Kodak Easy Share Z1285. I've tried using rechargeable Energizer batteries in it. The batteries are fully charged when I put them in, my camera dies in less than a minute, and when I go to recharge the batteries they are empty. Industrial strength batteries can keep my camera working for maybe an hour if I'm lucky, but at this rate I'll need my own landfill for all the batteries my camera is guzzling up. What's wrong with my camera, and are there any good batteries out there to help?

  • Answer:

You could try to use the Energizer Lithium E2 batteries (non rechargeable), because those are the ones that I have had the best luck with in any of my cameras.

check to ensure that the batteries are NIMH and not NiCad. You need NIMH rechargables.

No doubt your camera has live-view, which displays an image on the screen constantly. Have you been using your flash? How about a burst of 100 or so images? Shooting a movie? All of these things can deplete your battery power faster than any normal camera use would. If it's not one of the issues above, you should maybe consult your owner's manual, check into servicing the camera, or perhaps look into some high-end rechargeable batteries.

Don't use flash unless you absolutely need it and turn off the screen when you aren't using it.

I also had a camera that would guzzle up batteries as if they were going out of style. The batteries I was using were also rechargeables. Turned out, the batteries were extremely old, so they didn't hold their charge for too long. After that, I also got a different camera that uses a rechargeable pack - because its so much easier! gl

The Z is notorious for chewing up batteries, but your experience is not normal to say the least. I would imagine that your batteries are OLD and they no longer hold a charge. If they are a cheap imitation, then you likely will get 150-200 or so charge cycles. Original Kodak OEM (genuine) batteries will get 400+ charge cycles. The behaviour you articulate sounds like the battery is no longer working under load.
