How can I use my digital camera as a webcam?

Can I use my digital camera as a webcam? and how?

  • I have a FujiFilm FinePixZ5 and i wanna use it as a webcam .. idk if there is some software or something .. but if ne one knows ne thing about it please let me know!

    If your manual doesnt say it can, then it cant. Some companies make drivers etc that allow their cameras to be used as a webcam...for example my nokia phone can be used as a wireless webcam, but that's only because of special software that was created by some inventive minds. However, programmers dont make such software for cameras since cameras do not have the necessary operating systems to allow installation of newly developed features. Besides, the quality of a digital cameras is usually too good to be streamed smoothly in a webcam conversation. So the answer is: if the box and manual doesnt say it has webcam capabilities, then no, you cant use it as a webcam.

Some high end digital cameras have such a feature which allow up to 90 seconds of recording. Check your owner's manual to determine if your camera has such capability.

If your cam has AV output you may buy an AV->USB adapter ( or in-video card) and the webcam software http://www.willingsoftware.com You won't save money, but you'll save image quality.
