Which Fisheye Lens for a Canon Rebel?

  • I have a Canon EOS Rebel XTi with 72mm lens on it I am looking to buy a fisheye lens and was thinking about buying "0.42X FISHEYE LENS W/ MACRO FOR CANON EOS DIGITAL REBEL" from amazon although it says in the ratings that it is compatible with Canon 18mm-55mm IS lens and that it needs step up rings (http://www.amazon.com/0-42X-FISHEYE-MACRO-DIGITAL-Camera/dp/B000FW1X4K/ref=lh_ni_t) would this work with my camera, is it worth it? Or should I look for something else?

It will fit, but it'll turn your lens into a piece of sh*t. I wouldn't touch it.

I just looked on the Canon website and there is NO 72 mm lens. There is a EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens The links you provided are to add-on filters that try to distort images to look like fisheye images but fail to do so because a true fisheye "sees" 180 degrees and are very sophisticated lens designs, used as any other interchangeable lens If you are willing to put up with poor images and ones that only pretend to be fisheye lenses, get one that is 0.2x. 72mm is the lens filter size. You can get a cheap semi-fisheye adapter that screws on to the filter thread of your lens. I doubt you can find one at 72mm but try just the same. If you don't find one, use a step down ring to make the fit.
