Why won't my camera import the pictures to my computer?

Can someone tell me why I can import pictures from my camera to my computer but not videos?

  • Is there a difference between photos and videos when it comes to importing? How can I get my video clips onto my computer? I have a mac and my digital camera is Sony DSC-HX5V if that helps any... Thank you!

    There should have been a piece of software with your camera called PMB that you installed. Run that software and use the import feature, following the instructions to the letter. If you can't find the disk, then connect your camera and THEN visit the Sony support site. The site will confirm your eligibility to download the software and then offer you a link to it.

When you purchased your camera, there should have been one, or more CD ROM disks that came with the camera. If not, you are out of luck, except if it is a Canon brand, in which case, you can download the software from the cannon.com website. There is still another way you can try, take the memory stick, or flash memory out of the camera, and fit it into a card reader, plug the card reader into a USB port, and see if you can upload the videos that way. It is also quite possible that you have NO videos on the camera's memory! This can happen if the camera's battery was too flat (ran out of power), during the processing of the, or any video. Lastly, regrets, your PC or other hard disk device, might not support videos, or the video format (File extension) of your camera.

The file types of a still image is vastly different from a video file. Unless you are using your file manager to copy ALL the image files (still and video), a program only looks for matching image files. A photo program will look for JPEG or RAW files and a video program will look for MOV, AVI or MPEG-2, files
