What could be wrong with my digital camera not showing up when connected to USB?

• I always have my camera plugged into the USB drive, turn the camera on, the system then asks me how I would like to upload them. Now, nothing happens when I turn the camera on. What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

  The most likely problem is a damaged cable - try another. If that doesn't help, try plugging something else (like a usb flash drive into the port. If that works, the issue may be with the camera - could be as simple as a damaged port, in which case you can try to have it repaired...but that could be expensive: alternatively, if the camera works in other ways, you could use a card reader to transfer the files, which is just as easy and sometimes faster. Your problem could also be with your software: the simplest problem is that the camera is no longer set to automatically download. How you reset this depends on the version of the software you are using...under most Windows versions, you will find it under Control Panel/Harware/Auto Play but you can also set programs like PaintShopPro, Picasa (the free photo tool from Google) or Photoshop to download photo when you plug the camera in.
