IMovie help?

IMovie is not letting me use video from Sony CyberShot Camera, help?

  • IMovie is not letting me use video from Sony CyberShot Camera, help? I just bought a Mac last week and was told that my Sony Cyber Shot dsc-w70 is compatible, which is, but for some reason, iMovie doesn't let me use video footage from it. I wanted to make a movie of my friend's recital and the awards ceremony (5 video clips, about 20 min long total) but it wont recognize it. The clips are loaded on to the computer in iPhoto along with pictures and plays with quick time, but wont go onto iMovie, even when 'Importing from Movies' or under iPhoto. What should I do ??? Ive been reading that there are problems with this version of iMovie, so should I downgrade it to 5 off of the apple site? any help would be great, thanks!! :)

  • Answer:

Technically, I know of no reason why they're incompatible, so yeah, download the earlier version of iMovie. I like it a LOT better than the new one anyhow. A lot of people do! If the files are playable in QuickTime and show up in iPhoto, there's absolutely no reason for this problem - except iMovie.

Sounds like you have iMovie v7. You can download and install iMovie 6 alongside v7 if you want to use it. Then download and install MPEG Streamclip. Use it to convert your video file to dv or mov, where then you can import them to iMovie 6 or 7 for editing. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
