What lenses will fit an older canon film camera?

Are old Nikon film lenses compatible with a Canon camera with an adapter?

  • My dad has one of the first Nikon DSLR camera's, the D70 and lots of old film lenses. The film lenses seem to be semi usable, but the light meter doesn't work. If I try to use flash, it won't take a picture. However, I have also seen that the compatibility varies from camera to camera. I have a very new Canon 7D, and I am wondering how well his old lenses will work for me if I use a Nikon to Canon lens adapter. I heard that using those disables Auto Focus, but that's fine with me cause it's probably not compatible anyway! So does anyone have any experience with this?

  • Answer:

Yes if you don't mind manually focusing and limited light meter accuracy. Too bad you just don't buy a Nikon dSLR and be done with it. Here is how the Nikon D7000 sensor performance compares to the 7D http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors/Compare-cameras-side-by-side/(appareil1)/680%7C0/(appareil2)/619%7C0/(onglet)/0/(brand)/Nikon/(brand2)/Canon The substantial difference is in the dynamic range and low-light ISO performance Here is a link to a video made using the D7000 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMbBKukJzBk Note: About half of my Nikkor lenses are pre-digital and they all work on my most current Nikon bodies, auto-focus, metering and all
