I'm getting a Nikon DSLR, but im not experienced with DSLR lenses. Can you inform and review various examples?

I need to get more informed on these DSLR types. I have a 18-200mm, and its really expensive and large. Perhaps something smaller is better, for my purposes which are mainly filming. I found a list of some popular Nikon lenses. Can you give me your thoughts on each one, and best purposes for them? Thanks, here's the link: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/10-best.htm

Answer:
It would take a whole book to explain and review a bunch of different lenses. Luckily, those books have already been written - and most of them are available in the form of website. You already found one good one by yourself. Nikon has a nice learning section as part of their website, as do some other manufacturers (e.g. Canon). The lens specification pages themselves give a huge amount of information about the lenses. Certain photo sharing websites (such as Flickr) have groups dedicated to all kinds of different aspects, including lenses. The knowledge base available to us is huge, you just need to look for it.

good old ken rockwell, take what he says with allot of salt! He is a nikon fanboy and has.. written some really really odd things at times. For instance he is against RAW... ..oh he makes me laugh all the time. Mmm lenses.. so many lenses.. so many uses. Really different lenses different uses. Macro lenses offer you 1:1 reproduction. Wide angle lenses offer you a wide view of the world. 35mm on crop sensors or 50mm on full frame offer you our eyes view. And tele lenses allow you to get things closer.. In short.. there is not enough space in this little box to even begin talking about it. Best is to join flickr groups, forums and ask others about experiences with lenses. 18-200mm mmm is that the F3,5-F5,6 ah the vacation all walk around lens. Not a bad one well it is not a quick one to say.. It doesn't offer F2,8 the full range but that would be a big heavy expensive lens indeed. I would suggest Primes as one of the first areas to go. A 35mm F1,7 can be found relative cheap and is already pretty quick on its feet so to say. Stopped down to 2.2 it is sharp and allows you to shoot in darker areas quite nicely. Think a market where they are selling yummy food! The Nifty Fifty [50mm] is also nice to have BUT..and a huge BUT.. on crop sensor bodies they function like 75mm... so that is why I point at the 35mm! Now the prime lacks zoom [yeah that is why it is called a prime] but this allows for small weight, less glass needed, less things that can go wrong and wider apertures!
