How do you set apperature and shutter speed on the Nikon d3100 when in manual mode?

I just got the Nikon d3100 and I am learning to use it. In manual mode I can set the shutter speed but I don't know what to do to then set apperature. I move the wheel and it only does shutter speed. Is there somewhere else I need to go or a button I need to push so that it will go to apperature? I can go into apperature and set it that way but it seems that I should be able to do it all in manual mode.
