What are some common misconceptions that I can take pictures of?

Olympus Evolt Dslr wont take pictures half the time!It like only takes pictures when the flashs on. what the?!

• i press the button. it makes a noise. but no picture is taken!!! only when im taking a picture of somthing bright or using the flash it will take the picture. And i NEVER use the flash for my phototgraphy. why wont it take the picture? i have to leave it on the "P" (program) setting with all the features on automatic except without the flash bc i dont know how to turn the flash off on aut!! when it takes pictures it makes one noise followed by the shutter opening and closing. When it DOESNT take pictures it only makes the first noise. if its bc i dont have enough light then thats crap bc my other camera could take pictures like that all the time. plus this has IS (image stabalization) built into the body so even if the subject is a bit dark it should at least take the picture!! so frustrating. PLEASE HELP. i just got this camera like a month and a half ago and dropped a grand on it and all the accessories on it so i would appreciate help!!!!

  I would take the camera to a camera store where Olympus is sold, not to one of the big box electronic stores where the help are not necessarily photographers. It might take nothing more than resetting the camera to default, which is easily done.
