Canon rebel xti fisheye lens?
-
I have a rebel xti and I want to get a fish eye lens for it. I have seen photos of people using fisheye lens and it has ugly black triangles on the four corners, like it didnt get the entire fisheye effect, i want to avoid a crappy lens like that. i want to get one that is going to give me an all around fisheye photo with no black triangles on the corners. I dont really know what to look for, so if someone could link me to a good one or tell me what one is good i would love you forever!

Answer:
The vignetting that you describe is usually an effect of a wide conversion lens. You have two of choices: Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye: Samples -- http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=ef+15mm&ss=2&ct=5&s=int Product page -- http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=151&modelid=7321 Sigma 10mm F2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye: Samples -- http://masterchong.com/v2/lens-related/sigma-10mm-f2.8-ex-dc-hsm-fisheye-review-and-sample-p.html Product page -- http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3337&navigator=6 The Canon will rob you of about $660 while the Sigma will ask for about $600. Follow-up: Oops, David M is right. The 15mm EF Fisheye won't present the same effect on a crop sensor. Scratch that off the list and add the Tokina AF 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 DX Fisheye. Samples -- http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=tokina+10-17mm+xti&ss=2&ct=5&s=int Product page -- http://www.tokinalens.com/products/tokina/atx107afdx-a.html The Sigma 10mm is still a good choice. I doubt you'll like the Sigma 4.5mm. It's a circular fisheye which means you'll get the entire image circle. The image will be encircled by complete darkness. Here's a sample from a 40D (same crop factor as the XTi): http://www.flickr.com/photos/u07ch/2533867937/

Unfortunately Canon does not make a fisheye lens designed for the cropped sensor of your camera. This is one of the few times that I would recommend a third party lens. The Canon fisheye is designed for 35mm and full frame digital cameras. The black corners you are talking about is called vignetting. This is caused by the corners of the lens, filters or hood being visible to the film or sensor. This is what would happen if you used the Canon fisheye lens. So here is really your only choice. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/535757-USA/Sigma_486_101_4_5mm_f_2_8_EX_DC.html

I'm not sure what triangles you are talking about. Perhaps an image would help us. Could it be that the hood is showing in the image. Sigma EX 4.5 mm
